Development Appraisal
Assessing sites for major development proposals, either in terms of choosing the most suitable site for a particular scheme or determining the best choice between competing uses for a site that is available for development.
Appraising potential on the basis of:
- Costs and constraints on development.
- Economic benefits and contribution to key objectives for the locality.
- Environmental impact.
- Social impact.
Drawing the various strands together into a balance sheet which will enable informed and valid choices to be made.
Policy Evaluation
Evaluating the achievement of individual policies on the basis of:
- The extent to which they are successful in realising their specific aims.
- Their cost effectiveness, and the opportunity cost involved in their implementation.
- Any unintended side effects that they might have.
